Prague by foot

Editor’s Note … I have to preface the blog by saying I can not even begin to remember the names of all of the buildings that we saw today.  But I will do my best.

We had to make sure to get fueled up this morning because there is going to be a lot of walking today.  Nana and I headed downstairs around 7:30am for breakfast and one by one, the rest of the gang joined us.  The Majestic Plaza Hotel Prague serves up a breakfast almost as good as the one we had on the Emerald Sun.  We went back to the room to get our stuff since we are meeting Pavlina at 8:30am for our guided tour of Prague.

After everyone gathered in the lobby, we walked over to our bus which happened to be a Viking Cruises bus.  It was a million times better than the bus we had yesterday.  It was a short drive to the Prague Castle, our starting point of the tour.

Once we got through a security check, we got to begin our tour of the Prague Castle area. We spent about an hour walking through the various courtyards of the castle while Pavlina would give us some history.  One of the things that we learned is that Pavlina used to work on the castle grounds as a gardener.

Before leaving the castle, we got to sample some Traditional Bohemian Apple Strudel at the Lobkowicz Palace Restaurant and Café.  It was really nice to sit down and enjoy some authentic Czech pastry.  We left the restaurant and descended down the castle steps.  They did have a coach that took people back to the hotel.  Nana decided to head back while the rest of us continued.

The rest of the tour involved us walking to Old Town of Prague via the Charles Bridge.  Every time we would stop, I could not get over the architecture.

Marie, Karen and I needed to have a bit of a break, so we headed into the Hard Rock Café to have lunch.

After lunch, Marie headed off in one direction while Karen and I went to the Old Town Square Christmas Market.  There was lot of food, lots of drink and lots of people.

I headed back to the hotel after the Christmas market, while Karen went and did some shopping.  I got back to the room and Nana was gone.  About fifteen minutes later, she comes strolling in with a Starbucks in her hand.  She went our exploring on her own.  We needed to figure out if we had to buy a bigger second suitcase or use the duffel bags we brought with us.  After some shuffling of our stuff around, we decided that we should be fine with what we have.

We went down to Karen and Marie’s room to come up with a plan for the rest of the day.  We started off by going to the Palladium, a giant shopping mall that has over 175 stores.  After walking around the mall, we decided just to have dinner at the food court which had many options.

It was then off to the Black Light Theatre for the WOW Show.  Here is a description from the website.  “Enjoy a fascinating spectacle which will absorb you from the very beginning, wake up your inner child, and let you look into the depths of your soul.  Our performance is the tale of a man who is searching for his own self, and manages to defeat his fear with the help of magic beings”.  The show is interactive and 4D.  The best part was when the spiders went into the crowd.  This is a show that needs to be experienced.

We walked back to the hotel and it was time to call it a night.  Karen said it was a 25,000 step day.  I can totally believe that.
