Upcountry

With only having a week on the island, you need to carefully plan out what activities you want to do.  After some discussion, we decided that we would head up to Makawao today.  It was really nice sleeping in today.  After enjoying breakfast on the lanai, we got on the road and arrved in Makawao around 11:30am.

Makawao is upcountry on the slopes of Haleakala.  In the beginning, it was famous for its’ Paniolo (Hawaiian cowboy).  But over the years, it has become a vibrant arts community.  As we got into town and found a parking spot, that is when the showers began.  The first stop is always T. Komoda Store which is home to their world famous cream puff.  We were shocked when we went up to the door to only find a sign saying that they were closed but they would be open tomorrow at 7:00am.  How disappointing.  Anyways, we did spend a couple of hours checking out the funky shops.

On the way back to the condo, we stopped at Kula Country Farms where we picked up groceries for dinner.  And we even picked our own strawberries.  We also stopped in at Alamo at the airport so that we could exchange our rental car since it has been giving us some trouble.  Dinner once again was BBQ chicken which we enjoyed on the lanai.

Darren was kind enough to give us tickets to tonight’s performance of “Burn‘n Love” which he stars in.  The show was awesome as always and it was nice to see new songs like “Sweet Caroline”.  After the show, we went backstage and hung out in Darren’s dressing room until 1:00am remembering the good old days.
