Time to leave the island

We are leaving Maui today but not until 5:00pm.  So we decided that not getting up too early is in order.  Karen had some last minute shopping to do so she went out while Paula and I hung around the condo.  When Karen came back, we went downstairs to enjoy one final walk along the water.

After getting all of the bags packed in the car, we headed over to the Maui Ocean Center to kill some time.  There were lots of interesting exhibits including a shark tunnel, turtle lagoon and many colourful fishes.  Earlier in the day, Allison asked if we could have lunch together.  We suggested Beach Bums which is located downstairs from the Maui Ocean Center.  Darren, Allison, Shayla, Sienna and Cille came and met us and we all got to enjoy one last visit before we had to leave.  Unfortunately, the time came and we had to get going to the airport.  We said our goodbyes promising to come back sooner rather than later.

I dropped Karen and Paula at the airport with all of the bags while I went and dropped the rental car off.  Once I got back to the airport, I changed into my winter clothing.  Pants and socks and shoes just feel so weird after three weeks of shorts and flip flops.

Our flight today was with United but using Aeroplan miles (22,500 miles + $64.90 CAD in taxes / person).  The flight to Chicago was long, around seven and a half hours and none of us really got any sleep.  The layover in Chicago was short and we arrived in Toronto around 9:15am with a temperature of -3°C.

Karen’s brother Ross picked us up and took us to his home since that’s where Maui has been staying while we have been away.  We all were greeted with lots of kisses and hugs.

It’s so hard to say good-bye to Maui!
