Saturday traditions

Since 1981, the University of Hawaii Maui College’s parking lot has been home to the Maui Swap Meet which is held on Saturdays. Whenever we are on the island, we make it a point to go. They have everything from jewellery to fresh fruits and vegetables to clothing.

Karen, Paula and I got there around 9:00am to very grey skies that were threatening rain. We wandered around for the next couple of hours checking out the close to 200 vendors. From time to time, we would run into the others, each of us checking to see what the other bought.

We finished up and then headed over to the Queen Ka’ahumanu Center to check out Macy’s. It is really a cool feeling walking through an open air mall when the temperature is 80°F while doing your Christmas shopping. We spent just about an hour there and by now we were hungry. Karen remembered reading on the TripAdvisor forums about the food trucks across from Costco. There was enough variety and a good area to sit and enjoy your meals.

After lunch, Karen and I dropped Paula off at the Walmart while we headed over to the airport to meet Greg, Anne and Bridget along with Ross and Susie. They arrived on time, unfortunately their luggage did not. But lucky for them, their bags came on the next flight from Honolulu. Once we got Greg, Anne and Bridget on their way, we went and picked up Paula from Target and then headed back to the condo.

The rest of the evening was spent enjoying BBQ dinner along with some Roselani ice cream and a couple of games of dice with Steve, Linda and Paula.
