I felt some furry little paws on my bed at around 5:00am. After a quick trip outside, it was back to sleep until 8:00am. Once we had breakfast and got the car packed up, we were on the road by 10:00am for the half an hour drive to Waterloo Premium Outlets. It was only a few years ago that this mall was completely filled stores. I would say that the mall is half empty now. Maui really enjoyed walking the mall and meeting lots of new people.
After a couple of hours of shopping, it was back in the car for the hour trip to Watkins Glen. We drove down the Seneca Lake Wine Trail which is home to more wineries than any other wine trail in New York State. Since we are not big wine drinkers, we did not stop at any wineries. But I would suggest those of you who do enjoy wine, check the trail out. We stopped and had a late lunch at FLX Weinery before arriving at our destination for the night, Lakeside Resort.
Even though the name implies that we are on a lake, we actually are not. But you can see Seneca Lake from the front porch of the cabin. We are staying in one of their new two bedroom cabins (#37). I think we must be some of the first guests staying in them. The cabins are beautifully finished with concrete floors and live edge shelves.
We got settled in and then headed over to Watkins Glen State Park. Dogs are allowed on all of the trails except for the Gorge Trail. Because it was such a hot day today (91°F), we did not last too long on the Indian Trail. I think Maui enjoyed the short walk anyways.
We picked up dinner from Nickel’s Pit BBQ which we had back at the cabin. After dinner, we did a short walk down to the creek which runs through the resort. Now we are sitting on the front porch, enjoying the view while Maui is sleeping inside.
