Wrapping up the road trip

I love waking up to furry paws on the bed. Once we all got moving, the three of us walked up to the main building and grabbed breakfast which we enjoyed looking over Seneca Lake. We got the car packed up and said goodbye to Cabin 37 at Lakeside Resort. We will definitely be coming back here again.

We wanted to break up the drive home with one more stop. So when doing our research before the trip, we came across Letchworth State Park which is about ninety-seven kilometres southeast of Buffalo. It was voted best attraction of New York State in 2017 in a Reader’s Digest Poll. The park follows the flow of the Genesee River as it goes through a deep gorge and over three large waterfalls. Because of that, it has been given the nickname of “Grand Canyon of the East’.

We entered the park at the Portageville Entrance and made our way to a parking area near the Upper Falls. Since we picked up sandwiches back in Watkins Glen from Glen Mountain Market Bakery & Deli, we found ourselves enjoying lunch in a beautiful picnic area with Upper Falls in the background.

After lunch, we walked over to see Upper Falls which has an active railroad crossing above it. Then we walked the trail to see Middle Falls which is the highest of the three waterfalls. Letchworth State Park is a great park to explore for a long weekend.

It was time to get back into the car for the three hour ride home. We arrived at the Peace Bridge which was really busy except for the NEXUS lane. I love my NEXUS card. We got home just before 6:00pm. It was another great trip which was made extra special with having Maui along.
