Maui, Hawaii

I’m very sad today.  It’s our last day here.  Since our flight is at midnight, we’ve got the whole day here.

We started the morning back in Lahaina to watch the Na Kamehameha Pa’u Parade.  The parade features pa’u princesses on horseback along the Royal Court of Maui.  Each of the islands were represented.  It was a very colourful and down home parade.

Afterwards, we headed over to the Banyan Tree Park to watch the ho’olaule’a ceremony.  The king is presented with gifts.  It was a very moving experience.

We had lunch at Cheeseburger In Paradise, picked up a box of pineapples and made our way back to the condo.  We had enough time for a quick swim before heading back to Lahaina for our sunset cruise.

We sailed with Captain Gene and First Mate Don on the Scotch Mist II.  When the sail was unveiled, I noticed that it was a picture of a whale done by Wyland.  Karen is a huge Wyland fan.  Captain Gene told us that he is very good friends with Wyland and that he sails with him alot in the winter.  How cool was that.

We sailed around for a couple of hours enjoying champagne, chocolates and great conversations with the people on the boat.

We picked up takeout from Penne Pasta (which was awesome) and enjoyed our last dinner in Maui at the condo.

The worst part of the trip is always packing up.  We somehow managed to get all of our stuff into our suitcases and made our way to the airport.
