I do not know why I am eating again

It is our final day aboard the Norwegian Bliss. Our last port of call was Nassau, Bahamas but we do not arrive until noon. So that gives us the morning to enjoy the ship. After breakfast which we had at the Garden Cafe Buffet, we did some relaxing on The Waterfront.

Kris, Brodie, Maria, Karen, Marie and I decided to play a game of Laser Tag. It is on the very top deck and it is open air. Which means you are in the blazing sun. The game is played with two teams … blue team versus red team. The red team was a family of three along with Maria while the rest of us were the blue team. For $9.95 USD, you get two rounds of play which are five minutes in length. The way that you kill people is by shooting at their guns. When you run out of lives, you have to run back to the base station to reload and then you are back in the game. The playing field is supposed to simulate an alien space station. All I can say is that it was a lot of fun. I think the person who had the most fun was Brodie. He just loved shooting at everybody. In the end, the red team won.

When planning for this trip, we found a tour called Bites of Nassau ($96.93 CAD not including fees and taxes) which is a food tasting and cultural walking tour through historic downtown Nassau. It was only a ten minute walk from the pier. So we left the ship at around 12:30pm and did stop at a few stores before meeting up with our guide Gabriella at Christ Church Cathedral. The first thing that Gabriella asked the group to do was to introduce ourselves and tell your favourite food memory. The best food memory shared was by a girl from Knoxville, Tennessee who talked about the squirrel she ate that her boyfriend had killed in their backyard. What a way to start the tour.

The first stop was Bahamian Cookin’ which was established in 1986 by Mrs Wallace who saved for over twenty years so that she could open her own restaurant. It serves traditional Bahamian cuisine. There we had conch fritters and a typical Bahamian dinner which consisted of steamed chicken, peas and rice, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw and fried plantains.

We walked passed the Government House and through the Graycliff Hotel and it’s stunning grounds on our way to the second stop which was Graycliff Chocolatier. Here we sampled hand painted chocolates.

Our third stop was Chillin’ which is also part of the Graycliff family. This is a very new restaurant. The vibe here was very laid back and this is where we sampled a conch slider.

Throughout the tour, Gabriella would stop and give us a bit of history of Nassau and the Bahamian Islands which there are over 700 of them. The fourth stop was Talking Stick in the Towne Hotel were we had a Planters Punch and the fifth stop was Athena Cafe & Bar where we had conch chowder. We finished up the tour at Tortuga Rum Cake Company where we sampled the original rum cake.

It was a short walk back to the ship and we made it just in time for dinner. All of us got together for one last meal in The Manhattan dining room. After dinner, Karen, Mari and I went to the Theatre to check out Britain’s Finest, the Beatles tribute band. Once again it was a really good show. We met everyone after the show in the Observation Lounge for one final gathering. Some of us did not want to go back to our cabins right away to pack so we went to The Local for wings before calling it a night.
