Hola from Puerto Vallarta

I never can get a good night’s sleep before a flight.  I must have been up every 15 minutes checking the clock waiting for 3:30am to arrive.  It didn’t take long for everybody to get ready and before we knew it, the cab had arrived an hour later.  Ross and Susie live about ten minutes away from the airport, so it was a quick ride.

Our flight was at 6am and because it was one of the first flights out, there weren’t alot of people in the security or customs line.  Our first flight to Houston was on a really small plane (two by two).  We all tried to catch a few zzz’s.  We landed in Houston and had an approximate 2-1/2 hour layover before our second flight.  Unfortunately for us, we were not able to sit together but that was ok since it was a quick two hour flight.

We arrived in Puerto Vallarta and the first thing we noticed was how hot it was.  I believe the temperature was 31°C.  We grabbed our bags and headed past the time share people to pick up a cab to drop us off at our accomodations for the week.

There was lots of research done on VRBO.com and we settled on a condo at the Grand Venetian ($1000 USD).  Once we walked in, we were all stunned as to how beautiful it was.  There is a huge living room/dining room with floor to ceiling windows that open up onto a large beautiful balcony with it’s own hot tub.  There are three bedrooms, each with their own bathroom.  And there is even a nanny suite, with another bathroom.

We quickly unpacked and then headed to Gallerias Vallarta which is the big shopping mall.  We had to find the Ticketmaster so that we could pick up the tickets that we ordered for the volleyball games.  Let’s just say that it was a painful event and I was very thankful when it was over.  People move very slooooooooow here … I think it’s due to the heat.

By now it was getting to be dinner time, so we decided to have dinner at Chili’s at the mall.  I know, I know … first night in Mexico and dinner at Chili’s.  But we were all tired and hungry and needed something quick.  After getting fueled up, we walked over to the Walmart next door to pick up supplies for the week.

We grabbed a cab back to the condo and headed down to enjoy the pools.  There are four pools here with one of them being an infinity pool.  Boy was it ever refreshing after a long, long day.

We went back up to the condo and spent the rest of the evening relaxing and listening to the waves.  Tomorrow is the first volleyball game, against Argentina.  Go C-A-N-A-D-A!!!

Great bargain on the condo-you lucked out! It’s absolutely gorgeous! Wish Liz and Heather success for me! They had a great start yesterday.
