Another beautiful port

Today we were in Tortola in the British Virgin Islands.  It was an early start today.  The ship docked in Road Town at 7:00am and we were off by 8:30am.  We went over to the cruise terminal and like in St. Thomas, it wasn’t a problem getting a taxi.  We decided that we would hit a beach before doing any shopping today.  We did some research on the internet and everyone kept saying how beatiful the beach is at Cane Garden Bay.  The taxi ride there was as wild as any ride at Wonderland.  We drove winding roads at break-neck speed up and over the mountains, and down to the bay.

We got to the beach and it was as beautiful as people said.  Turquoise water, palm trees, and surrounded by hills, with many colourful homes perched in the hills.  Lots of bars selling drinks on the beach.  We found our spot and rented a couple of loungers.  It was very windy today which made for huge waves.  They actually came right up to the lounge chairs, and swept away anything lying on the sand.  Between the waves and the strong undertow, we thought it would be smarter if we didn’t go into the water.  We saw many people get knocked down on their butts, so we stayed close to shore.  We left Cane Garden Bay around noon and grabbed a taxi back to downtown Road Town.  On the way back, we could see St Thomas, which is only about 11 miles away.

Road Town is not as developed as Charlotte Amalie in St. Thomas but it still has a lot of charm.  There are many brightly colored buildings.  We easily managed to spend some money before heading back to the ship.  We went upstairs to the back of the ship to enjoy lunch at the Great Outdoors with a backdrop of Road Town.  Beautiful.

After departing Tortola at 2:30, we still had a good part of the day left so we decided we should work on our tans on the sundeck.  Once we got there, it was just too windy to sit outside.  Instead we went to the Spinnaker Lounge and grabbed the big bed for an afternoon nap.

Dinner tonight was in the Summer Palace Main Restaurant.  Karen and I both had the ceasar salad and the pan fried perch with rice.  Karen went with the raspberry sherbet and I had the peach cheesecake.  After dinner, we went to the casino and proceeded to be parted with our money.  We headed back to the room to relax before heading to the showroom to see “The Secondy City” comedy show.  Tomorrow is a day at sea, so lots of relaxing.
