Senior in a speedo

Smash … smash … smash.  That is the sound of waves crashing right outside our window.  It’s a great sound to lull you to sleep.  Unfortunately sleep is something we are not getting enough of.   Karen and I were both wide awake by 5am.  We layed around until about 7am and then enjoyed a lovely breakfast on the lanai.  Many people are walking the beach at that hour including one senior citizen in a speedo.

We decided to head to the west side of the island today.  Our first stop was Lahaina where we walked along the main street checking out the various shops.  Lahaina is also home to one of my favourite restaurants the Aloha Mixed Plate.  If you did not know about this place, you would never stop.  The restaurant is located right on the water right next to the Old Lahaina Luau.  The funny part is that the food for the luau comes from Aloha Mixed Plate.  Therefore you can enjoy the same view and food as the luau but for about 1/10 of the price.  I always get the Teriyaki Beef which was fabulous along with a Strawberry Mango Lemonade.

After lunch, we continued north west to Kapalua Beach.  As we approached the beach, we saw many cars parked on the road.  Not a good sign.  Lucky for us, we were able to get a spot and had a quick walk to the water.  We found our spot and set up camp.  The next few hours were spent reading trashy magazines, snacking and enjoying the slightly chilly water.  Unfortunately it started to rain so we quickly packed up and headed to the car.  Just as we got everything in, the sun came out.  That’s how it is in Hawaii.  If it starts to rain, just wait five minutes.

We left the beach and started heading back but not before stopping in at Whaler’s Village for some shopping beachside.  We picked up dinner from Penne Pasta Cafe in Lahaina which we enjoyed back at the condo.

It was still early so we had a quick dip in the pool before ending the evening at Macy’s located in the Queen Ka’ahumanu Center which is an open air mall.  Shopping in Maui is so much fun.
