Never get tired of this road

Since early mornings are the norm lately, you might as well use it to your advantage.  Today we decided to take the road to Hana.  This is a fifty-two mile drive through some of the most beautiful scenery in Maui.   The drive also involves 620 curves and 59 bridges with 46 of them being a single lane.  It can get quite scary at times but that is all part of the journey.

Our trip started in Paia where we picked up supplies (sandwiches, snack items) from Mana Foods.  We spent the next five hours driving and exploring Maui’s east side.  We did make a few stops.  The highlights were  the Garden of Eden which was a beautiful botanical garden and the Keanae peninsula where we had lunch.  Before we knew it, we were in Hana.  The drive back did not take as long as the drive there.  As they say, it’s about the journey, not the destination.

We headed back into Paia and had a fabulous dinner at The Flatbread Company.  We wanted to have dinner in Paia because it is not too far from Ho’okipa Beach.  This beach is renowned for it’s waves and it’s a popular spot for windsurfers.  The sunset was looking good up until the point the sun went behind some clouds.  But we were lucky enough to see a bunch of sea turtles very close to shore.
