I threw open the curtains and what did I see … rain … lots and lots of rain. We had been checking the weather before we left and we knew that there was going to be rain. What we didn’t realize is how much we were going to get. After breakfast, we packed up all of our rain gear and headed to Sillery where the Quebec Open Jeep is being played.
There was no parking at or near the event but they were offering a shuttle bus from Laval University. Just as we got out of the car to make our way to the shuttle bus, the skies opened up and just started pouring. We all got soaked even though we were wearing raincoats and carrying umbrellas. It took us about 15 minutes to get to the event site. Once we got there, Liz was kind enough to get us some passes.
We made our way to Court 1 where Liz and Heather would eventually play at 2pm. We staked our spots and watched a couple of the Canadian teams play. We watched the women’s team of Lessard and Martin and then the men’s team of Redmann and Saxton before Liz and Heather took to the court.
Just before the game, the rains stopped and the sun came out. Liz and Heather (who are ranked 10th in the tournament) played the Japanese team of Tanaka and Mizoe (who are ranked 23rd). Liz and Heather took it to three games and they came out on top. During the first game it got very tense when they took it to 28-26. The Ottawa Maloneys (Paul, Jen, Gillian and Megan) along with a Barrie Maloney (Deanna) arrived just before the second match. This time, Liz and Heather played the Greek team of Arvaniti and Tsiartsiani (who are ranked 7th). This match didn’t go our way. Liz and Heather lots in two straight games but once again it was very exciting volleyball.
After getting drenched and baking our brains today, we grabbed the shuttle bus back to the car and picked up dinner from St-Hubert which we enjoyed back at the hotel. We ended the night just hanging out, eating and laughing.
