Wayne Newton at the Western Fair

“The Midnight Idol”, “Mr. Excitement”, “Mr. Las Vegas” … these are the words that describe Wayne Newton.  Now before you say anything, Wayne Newton is cool.  For a guy who is 62 years old, he puts on a very entertaining show.  I highly recommend that if you get the chance to see him, you should.

A few months ago, I received an email from Ticketmaster saying that Wayne Newton would be playing the Western Fair.  I asked Karen if she wanted to go and she said yes.  I called the day that tickets went on sale and was fortunate enough to get two seats in the front row. But the show was months away.

Finally the day had come.  We decided to take the afternoon off so that we could enjoy the fair before the concert.  I started a new series of pictures when at the Paris Fair this year that is title “Eating Yourself Sick At The Fair”.  The tradition continued at the Western Fair.

We headed over to the grandstand around 7:30pm and made our way to the seats.  These seats were #$%&$*%& awesome.  The lights came down and there was Wayne.  The last time that Wayne was at the Western Fair was 1967.  He sang “Mack The Knife”, “Can’t Help Falling In Love”, “Strangers In The Night”, “I’m So Lonesome” and of course “Danke Schoen”.  The man is very talented.  I decided that I wanted a picture with Wayne.  I gave Karen my camera and at the end of the show, I made my way to the stage.  I was so lucky that Wayne came over and shook my hand.  Wayne played for just under 2 hours and it was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen.
