Walking on air

Since today is a day of driving, we decided that sleeping in was in order.  Once we got moving, we went over to the restaurant and filled up on the breakfast buffet.  We packed up the car and started down Highway 93 to our destination of Canmore.  The Icefields Parkway is one of the most scenic drives in Canada.  The GPS said it would take us four hours to get there.  Something tells me it will take much longer than that.

The first highlight of today was Athabasca Falls.  As we approached the falls, we noticed that there was a line strung across them and just saw a guy finish walking across.  We went over to talk to him and he said that what he is doing is called waterlining.  Colin explained that there were only a handful people in Alberta that do the sport.  We hung around long enough that we were able to see Colin walk over and back the falls.  It was so cool.

After Athabasca Falls, we also stopped at Sunwapta Falls and various other spots too numerous to mention.

We have done the Columbia Icefield on a previous trip, so we thought we should try a new attraction the Glacier Skywalk.  It is a glass-bottomed walkway suspended 918 feet over the Sunwapta Valley.  We spent quite a bit of time here talking lots of pictures and just enjoying the view.  This was another highlight of today.

It was back in the car to continue down the Parkway.  We had three bear sightings today and the best one was where we saw the bear in a pull off area.  We drove past him and watched as he approached a car before heading back down the hill.

We saw lots more beautiful scenery on our drive and we finally arrived at the condo in Canmore ($775.75 CAD) at 8:30pm.  This was roughly six hours later than originally estimated.  We walked down the street for a late dinner before crashing for the night.

I wish I could remember where this is

Next time I will take notes
