Today we booked ourselves a tour called Hungry In Hyannis ($46 USD / person) with Cape Cod Foodie Tours. This is the first walking food tour on Cape Cod. We always either try to take a photography or a food tour whenever we are on vacation. It really gives you a great perspective on the city that you are visiting.
We met our guide Colleen who also just happen to be the owner of Cape Cod Foodie Tours at Brazillian Grill, which was our first stop. There were five other people on the tour which made it a nice small group. Brazillian Grill is an authentic Brazillian dining experience. I like to call it “All You Can Meat”. Basically the gauchos (waiters) will keep bringing you various slowly grilled meats to you until you tell them to stop. Colleen did not let us get to crazy but we did sample sirloin steak, lamb and chicken wrapped in bacon. What a great way to start the tour.
Our next stop was Beech Street Cantina where we had homemade guacamole under a historic beech tree dating back to 1776. We then had a quick walk to Tumi Ceviche which is a Peruvian/Italian restaurant. Colleen told us that the owners wanted to combine his love of Italian cooking with her Peruvian background. We had the traditional ceviche which is basically raw fish (in this case flounder) marinated in lime juice along with salt and seasonings. We have had ceviche once before in Mexico and this was just as tasty.
It was about a ten minute walk to Caffe Gelato Bertini. This place is run by a husband and wife team who learned the art of making gelato in Florence, Italy from the Bertini family. All of the gelatos are made from scratch and flavours will vary during the season. We learned that gelato is much better for you than ice cream. Pizza Barbone was up next the home of authentic Neapolitan wood fired pizza. We actually ate here last year so we knew the pizza was going to be good. It took Chef/Owner Jason O’Toole approximately less than a minute to create the Margherita pizza and about nintey seconds to cook it. He uses only the freshest ingredients with some of them actually being grown on his roof top garden.
We left Pizza Barbone and it took us about fifteen minutes to get to the Black Cat Harbor Shack which is located at Hyannis Harbor. Here we had the award winning clam chowder. And then we ended our tour at Good Butter Bakery home of the Kayak cookie. These cookies were created by Terri Horn who needed something to eat while out kayaking. The original cookie is Oatmeal Raisin Salty Oats but now there are five varieties. The newest creations are Peanut Butter and Peanut Butter Chocolate which took Terri five years to perfect the recipe. All of the cookies are made from scratch and Colleen told us that Terri made over ten thousand cookies last week.
After walking almost two miles, we said goodbye and proceeded to walk all the way back to the car. We headed back home to relax on the back porch. We enjoyed the pizza so much from Pizza Barbone, that we got their Marinara pizza along with a Ceasar Salad which we enjoyed at home. Our night ended with a trip to Cape Cod Mall to check out the back to school sales.
