We decided that today we would go to Naples to check out the zoo and Tin City. But before we left, we saw a couple of dolphins in the canal. We had read in the guest book that people have seen dolphins so we were very excited that we finally saw them.
You would normally find a zoo on the outskirts of town but the Naples Zoo is 43 acres right in the middle of the city and across the street from a mall. There were not too many cars which was a good sign. We got inside and grabbed a map to see what the zoo had on display.
In the first part of the zoo we saw a giant anteater, leopards sleeping on a tree branch and a couple of snakes. We then took the Primate Expedition Cruise where we got to see gibbons, lemurs and spider monkeys.
The one thing we knew we wanted to do was the giraffe feeding experience. We got there just as the giraffe keeper was giving a talk about them. As she was talking, she was feeding a giraffe romaine lettuce. The one thing I learned is that giraffe’s have very long tongues. Karen, Michael and Liam got to feed the giraffe. They looked really tiny compared to the giraffe.
We left the giraffes and headed through the back half of the zoo where we saw a cheetah, striped hyena, a Florida panther and some black bears. It was really hot by this time so we thought we should get out of the sun.
Since there was an Olive Garden nearby, we thought we should have a late lunch/early dinner. What was nice was that there was no line up to get in. After eating, we headed over to Tin City to check out the various shops. The one store that we were teasing the boys with was the Naples Soap Company. What was funny is that both Liam and Michael enjoyed trying out the body scrubs.
We ended our night like we have every night since we have been here … Pool, night time fishing and movies.
