Totem poles, prom kids, Vancouver Canucks

I don’t think anybody slept last night so it wasn’t too difficult to be up by 4:00am.  I wanted to get an early start because I wasn’t sure how long it would take us to go through the various processes at the airport with my parents.  Lucky for us traffic wasn’t too bad and we arrived at Toronto Pearson International Airport around 6:30am.   The reason why we flew from Toronto was that we had enough Aeroplan miles which made the flights free.  Well not actually free … it still ended up costing us around $600 in taxes.

It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be getting checked in and through security.  The only difference was that they did a physical pat down on my dad.  The difficult part was getting my dad into his seat but in the end Nana figured it out.  I remember at one point during the flight, I looked over to my parents and I thought … WOW … I can’t believe they are finally on a plane again.

It was a long flight for my dad so I think that when we landed in Vancouver around 11am, we were all very happy to get off of the plane.  After getting the luggage, Karen and I proceeded to Hertz ($64.68 CAD) to pick up the Grand Caravan that I reserved.  Unfortunately we couldn’t get my dad into it so we traded it in for a Ford Flex.  We headed up to North Vancouver to our hotel the Holiday Inn & Suites North Vancouver ($134 CAD).    We didn’t want to go to far for lunch so we just picked up from restaurant at the hotel.

Karen’s niece Marie lives in Vancouver and lucky for us she was able to get off of work at noon and spent the rest of the day with us on our compressed tour of Vancouver.  Before we left from home, Nana was talking about the Capilano Suspension Bridge and how she couldn’t go on it.  Marie somehow managed to talk Nana to go out about half way on the bridge.  We then went over to Stanley Park and drove through it.  It’s such a beautiful place.  We saw totem poles, prom kids and a statue with a Vancouver Canucks jersey.

It was getting late (well for us anyways) so we decided to pick up dinner from the White Spot Restaurant and go back to the hotel to watch Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final.  After dinner, Marie, Karen and I went to Seymour’s Pub in the hotel to watch the third period.  When Vancouver scored what ended up being the winning goal, the place just erupted.  It was so cool to be there, the energy was unbelievable.

The night ended with running errands.  If this post sounds a bit scattered it’s because I’m so tired.
