We decided to split up today. Karen and Allison went to the Brighton outlet at the Cabazon Outlets, and left a few dollars there. Darren and I went out for breakfast at Denny’s.
We got back to the hotel where Darren got busy getting ready for his show and I enjoyed a couple of hours relaxing by the pool. Did I mention that our room has a 42″ LCD TV. Anyways, Karen and Allison got back by mid afternoon and then we all headed over to the Southern California Logistics Airport for Darren’s show.
Darren was hired by Million Air to perform at the grand opening of their Victorville location. Million Air is basically an upscale truck stop for airplanes. (Movie stars and President Bush have flown in there!). When we arrived, we drove onto the tarmac, escorted by an airport truck, and then drove down the runway to the tents where the show was being held. The show was catered by Out of This World BBQ , and the food was fabulous. Yummy chicken and ribs.
Darren put on the best show ever. It included two 45 minute sets, with four costume changes, and songs from the 50s through to the 70s. The band was amazing, and could really rock the house. What was very cool is that the stage was partly on the runway and while he was singing, planes would be taking off and landing. The crowd was up dancing and having a lot of fun. Who knows what this might lead to!
After the show, the general manager gave us a tour of the facilities and we were all blown away. The pilot’s lounge is a private screening room where they can enjoy movies in comfort, while their clients do business. There are also many sleeping rooms, office rooms, lounge areas, etc. for the clients and pilots to be comfortable. We ended our evening with a late night snack at IHOP. It’s going to be tough to top this show during next year’s birthday week!
Don’t forget Yankee Candle semi-annual sale! Hope you got lots of neat stuff at Brightons! Happy Birthday, Dorothy! I’m always envious of your birthday week trips! Take me with you!
