The caravan is coming to an end

Today is our last full day in Alaska.  The plan as to sleep in as long as possible because we have a long drive today.  We had a bit of time before we left so I went over to the Valdez library to use their WiFi.  The last few campgrounds have had weak to non existent WiFi so it has made posting the blog difficult.  I got back just in time to assist Karen with the dumping of the tanks one final time.  That was the last thing we had to do before we could leave.  We took one more look across the marsh for a bear but we did not see any.  Now it was time to go.

For the first couple of hours of the drive, we encountered all kinds of weather from heavy fog to rain and then finally to sun.  I am so glad that the sun came out because it makes the drive so much more enjoyable.  And again there was next to no one on the Richardson Highway.  We met up with the others in Glennallen to start the next few hours of driving.

Nobody on the road again

Richardson Highway

The Glenn Highway connects Glennallen to Anchorage and it was the final highway we would be travelling on.  There was lots of great scenery.  We did make a couple of stops for pictures.  We arrived at the Mountain View RV Park in Palmer ($40 USD / night) around 5:30pm.

I will miss travelling in the RV

Steve and Linda ahead

Because it is our last night together, we combined all of our leftover food for one giant smorgasbord.  Everything from Steve’s halibut to tacos to salads.  It was quite the feast.  After dinner, we just relaxed around the picnic table talking about the trip.  I think most of us are not ready to go home yet.  We ended the night with packing and one final movie night.

Today’s miles = 260.4

Total miles = 1590.6

One last time together
