SHARK … tooth

Venice, Florida is about two hours north of Marco Island and it is known as the “Shark’s Tooth Capital of the World”.  We thought the boys would enjoy a day of trying to find shark teeth so we packed up the cars to begin our journey.

Our destination was Caspersen Beach which according to TripAdvisor was the best place to find shark teeth.  After parking the cars, it was a quick walk to the beach.  As we approached the beach, we could see that everyone was hunched over looking for shark teeth.  This beach is much smaller and the sand is granular, not that white powdery sand that we experienced yesterday.  We quickly dropped our stuff and started searching.

We noticed that there were different techniques being used to find shark teeth.  Most people are hunched over looking at the sand.  Some people have what is known as a “Florida Snow Shovel” which is a basket with a long metal arm used to shift through the sand.  Cathy was the most successful in our group at finding them.  She could just spot them in the sand.  Besides the shark teeth, we saw lots of fish, dolphins and even a mermaid.

We had another great afternoon at the beach but unfortunately Michael still was not feeling well.  Cathy and Dave decided to get Michael’s ear checked out while Karen, Liam and I headed back to the vacation house.  The three of us enjoyed pasta dinners from Joey’s Pizza & Pasta along with a movie.  A couple of hours later, the rest of the gang arrived.  Michael has an ear infection but he was feeling much better after getting some medication.  We ended our evenings like we have every night with snacks and a movie with tonight’s feature being “Wall-E”.
