Liz and Heather’s match against Puerto Rico was the first one of the day at 9am so it was an early start today. Everyone got ready and we headed down to pick up the bus right outside the condo. We are getting really good at taking the bus.
We were a few minutes late so we rushed and grabbed our seats in the stands. Today’s match didn’t go our way (19-21, 18-21), but was very exciting. We stayed and watched the team from Argentina beat the team from El Salvador (who Liz & Heather will play on Tuesday).
Since we were already half way there, we decided to jump on the bus and head to Old Town. We struck up a conversation on the bus with a couple from Cambridge who happened to be staying next door at the Holiday Inn. What a small world.
Once we got off of the bus, we headed towards the beach to have lunch. Lucky for us we were able to find the place that Chacha took us as part of our tour yesterday, Lancosta Loca. We were the only ones at the restaurant and had the best table on the beach, only feet away from the waves. Because we were the only ones on the beach, it seemed that every beach vendor approached us to buy something. We spent alot of our meal saying “No Gracias”. We all enjoyed some type of fish for lunch … ceviche for Karen, BBQ blue marlin or shrimp on a skewer for the rest of us.
After a leisurely lunch, we decided to do some more exploring when all of a sudden we ran into Chacha with a tour group. After spending some pesos in Old Town, we were all getting worn out so we decided to head back to the condo for a dip in the pool.
We headed back to the stadium to cheer on the Canadian men’s team (Ben Saxton and Christian Redmann) at the 5:00 game. They played very well and ended up defeating the team from Uruguay.
We needed a place for dinner but didn’t have any real ideas. So we ended up at 100% Natural which was across the street from the volleyball stadium, with the Maloneys, Sewells and Saxtons.
Afterwards we were able to convince Liz, Ray and his dad Graham to come to the condo for a swim. Just before they had to leave, we all headed down to the beach to see if we could spot any sea turtles. As we got to the gate, we ran into a gentleman who said that he knew where there was a turtle nest. He said that the turtles would be leaving the nest in next couple of days. He dug down into the nest and was able to retrieve a baby turtle just hatching from the egg! It was so cool to see. He put the baby back in the hole and covered him up. As we were walking back, Liz & Ross had come across a mother sea turtle laying her eggs. What a way to end the night.
Who knows what might happen tomorrow!
