One last stop

For our last port of the cruise, we are in Cannes, France.  According to Rick Steves it is pronounced as “can”.  Beverly Hills is the sister city and that says it all.  We had nothing really planned for today except to walk around.  The ship does not actually dock in Cannes, so cruise ship passengers have to take a tender.  Even though we arrived at 6:30am, we had a bit of a lazy start to the day and ended up taking a 9:30am tender to shore.

After strolling through the port and checking out all of the boats, it was a quick walk into town.  We started the morning by heading to Marche Gambetta.  It is a covered open-air market that has local fresh produce, seafood and clothing.  We then wandered the streets checking out the various shops before stopping for lunch at San Telmo Ristorante.

While we were heading back, Teresa posts in the WhatsApp group that Petit Train was a great way to see more of Cannes without having to do any walking.  We walked to the pick up location and bought our tickets (14 Euros / person) for the 3:30pm tour.

The one hour tour is actually made up of two tours.  It starts with the Croisette Tour which takes where the movie stars like to go.  From the luxury hotels to beautiful beaches to exquisite shopping, you get to see it all including where the hold the Cannes Film Festival.

The second part of the tour is called the History Tour and as the name suggests, it focuses more on the past.  My favourite part was when the train stopped at Notre-Dame d’Esperance.  It is an ancient church that has a panoramic view of Cannes.

On our way back down, the train made one more stop at that was at the port.  This is where Darlene, Nana, Brodie and myself got off.  From this point, we grabbed the tender back to the ship.  Karen and Marie stayed on the train and then spent the rest of their time shopping.  They actually came back on the last tender.

All of us had one final meal together in Taste.  It was really nice to just be all together.  Some of us decided to skip dessert in the dining room and head up to the buffet for more choices.  The night ended with packing up.  It is always interesting to see if everything that I bought will fit in the suitcase especially the six Starbucks mugs I have managed to pick up over this trip.
