It does have a lean to it

It is our last day in Italy.  We have had such a great time exploring this country.  We had one more place to visit and that was Pisa.  Last night we bought our train tickets (3.40 Euros which also included a 0.60 Euro booking fee) using Trainline for the 10:12am departure.  It was another big group today … Karen, Darlene, Dave, Cathy, Michael, Liam, Paul, Jen, Terri, Dan, Marie and Brodie.  Nana decided she needed a day of rest so she stayed behind.  We knew what to expect in terms of the taxis so it was pretty quick to find two of them for the trip to Livorno Centrale.

The train ride to Pisa Centrale was only fifteen minutes.  Dave, Cathy Michael and Liam had 1:15pm tickets to climb the nearly three hundred stairs to the top of the Leaning Tower.  The walk from the train station to the tower is only thirty minutes.  So we had quite a bit of time to do some exploring.

We walked down Corso Italia which is Pisa’s main shopping street for locals.  One store not to be missed going into is the H&M.  They have a beautiful stained glass ceiling.  Our local H&M does not have that.  We found Pisa to not be as nearly busy as Florence.

We arrived at the Leaning Tower at around 12:45pm.  The Paisley Maloneys got in line for the climb while the rest of us tried to find a spot in the shade.  I loved watching the people doing the mandatory hold up the tower photos.  The stances on some people were quite funny.

It only took the Paisley Maloneys fifteen minutes to get to the top.  They are one fit family.  Once we got some pictures of them, they came down and we all tried our hand at getting the iconic photo with the tower.

On our way back to the train station, we stopped and had a late lunch at La Lanterna Ristorante Pizzeria.  One thing we have learned is that it is difficult to get a table for more than four people.  The other thing we have learned is that even if you can get a table, they will not split the bill.  I think we ended up having three sets of tables for our final meal in Italy.

We were able to catch the 4:20pm train back to Livorno and once again grabbed a couple of taxis back to the port.  We wanted to keep things simple so we had dinner at the Garden Cafe and finished up the day on the balconies.  Arrivederci Italy.
