Now the vacation has begun

Right now there is a six hour time difference between Hawaii and back home.  Because of this, I was wide awake around 5:00am and could not get back to sleep.  So instead of fighting it, we use it to our advantage and got to the weekly Maui Swap Meet by 8:00am.  Everything you read about the swap meet tells you to go early and there are two reasons for this.  The first reason being that many of the vendors sell out of their goods.  The second reason is that it gets really hot as the morning progresses.  What I love about the swap meet is that you can find practically anything there.  From fresh fruits and vegetables to souvenirs to massages to t-shirts to trinkets.  We spent a couple of hours there and managed to purchase something from each of the categories.  We still had time before check out so we went over to the Costco to see what they had.  Always hit up the Costco whenever you are travelling since they will likely sell items local to that area.

It was time to go back to the Maui Seaside Hotel to checkout.  We were going to go to Makawao but then Karen had a great idea that we should start heading to Lahaina.  By doing this, we could stop at Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop and actually have lunch there.  Normally we get take out to enjoy at a beach but this would be something new.  The place was busy but we were able to get a table. Karen had the club sandwich and I had the turkey pot pie.  But before lunch came, we actually started with dessert which was a fabulous strawberry pie.  Now we were stuffed and so we continued down the highway to Lahaina.  We made a detour to Safeway to pick up provisions for the week.  Groceries are very expensive here … $8.00 for a loaf of bread, $6.00 for a case of water and do not even ask how much orange juice is.

We are staying at our favourite place,  Noelani Condominium Resort in Unit 105 ($986.29 USD including taxes) until Wednesday and then we are changing units but more on that later in the week.  After getting the keys, we hauled everything from the car into the condo and got settled.  We worked up a sweat so we decided to have a quick dip in the pool.  The rest of the afternoon was spent hanging around the condo and just relaxing.  We wanted to see if we could see any turtles so we walked over to the edge of the property.  Because of the recent storms, there is a beach where there used to be none.  And on the beach were turtles sunning themselves.  We did not want to go out for dinner, so we invited Darren over for a BBQ.  The evening was spent eating, laughing and reminiscing.
