Today I was up really early because there were a couple of events that I wanted to get to.
First up is the Maui Swap Meet which is held each Saturday from 7:00am to 1:00pm at the Maui Community College. There are a couple of reasons why you want to be at the swap meet as early as possible which for me today was when they opened at 7:00am. Reason #1 – is that none of the vendors are sold out of anything. Reason #2 – which in my eyes is most important, it’s to beat the heat. There were no crowds so I was able to quickly walk through the entire swap meet picking up a bunch of things on my list … beach backpack, BBQ sauces and rubs and some hot from the fryer malasadas.
Just around the corner from the swap meet is the Maui Arts & Cultural Centre which today was holding the 3rd Annual Made in Maui County Festival. The purpose of this festival is to showcase vendors who have satisfied the following three conditions … #1 – Business must be based in Maui Country. #2 – all products offered for sale must be made/manufactured/grown/created in Maui Country. #3 – product must meet minimum of 51 percent “Made in Hawaii” product validation. There was everything from food to produce to jewellry to fashion. I spent the next two hours wandering around the over 140 vendors picking up items from Karen’s and my list. I can safely say that Christmas shopping has begun.
I then went over to the LaBine home where we packed up the van and headed over to Baby Beach for an afternoon of swimming, playing, eating and relaxing.
After dropping off Allison and the girls at home, Darren and I drove over to Wailea to Mulligans on the Blue. Some Saturdays, Darren and a few members of the Burn N’ Love band, perform a show there. This show was reminisccent of the 3rd Set that Darren used to do in his shows. It sure did bring back a lot of memories. We grabbed a quick bit to eat on our way home. I decided to call it an early night since the lack of sleep has finally caught up to me.
