Las Vegas, Nevada – April 1, 2006

We try and get to Las Vegas at least once a year.  There is just something about that town that I love.  We are fortunate enough to have very good friends who live there and insist that we stay with them.

Thanks for everything, Darren & Allison … we love you guys.

Once again we decided to fly from Detroit Metro Airport with Spirit Airlines.  We left home around 1:30pm and after a quick stop at the Columbia Sportswear outlet store (lots of winter coats on sale), we crossed the border and were on our way to the airport.  It was exactly 1/2 hour from the time we parked the car (in the long term parking lot) until we got through security.  Other airports should look at how things are done at Detroit Metro Airport.

We landed at 9pm and headed over to Thrifty to pick up our car.  Travel tip – when booking a car in Las Vegas, always go with Hertz.  It will be more money but the time you will save, will be well worth it.  We booked an economy car and when we got there, they showed us a row of vehicles we could choose from.  We choose the Jeep Wrangler.  Travel tip … don’t book this car.  High center of gravity, very noisy, no room, 17 steps to take the top off and need to lift your butt very high when getting into the vehicle.

We made our way over to Darren & Allison’s home where we would be staying.  It’s been a year since we’ve last seen them.  During our last visit, we helped them move into their new home.  Thankfully there will be no moving of stuff this time.  It was so nice to see them and their little dog Darla.  Travel Tip – when staying at the LaBine Bed & Breakfast, ask for a room without the water cooler.  Those who have stayed there will understand.  We stayed up until 4am catching up and playing “Shout About Music”.  All I can say is that I was on the winning team.
