Guest blogger again today … from Karen.
So we started the day without any firm plans, but things changed quickly. We phoned Francisco, who works the beach in front of the Holiday Inn next door, and quickly arranged a fishing trip on one of his boats. Ross, Susie, and Karen headed out fishing for 3 hours ($1,500 MXN, about $150 USD). Our captain took us south along the coast, past Downtown, Old Town, the Malecon, and Mismaloya (where Night of the Iguana was filmed).
We fished with four heavy duty poles off the back of the boat, rigged up with some kind of jigs. With no success we switched over to live bait. The bait was a fish about 12 inches long, and something I would be very happy to catch. With bait like that, I can’t imagine the size of the fish you could catch. We fished for a while and caught nothing. So the captain took us across Banderas Bay, over to Nuevo Vallarta, and then cruised back along the shore. No luck … we were shut out. But we did see two sea turtles swimming by, and plenty of small fish jumping everywhere. We had a great time, and a great boat ride anyway.
While we went fishing, Graham & Gillian took a taxi ride heading south down the coast, in the same direction that we fished. They got to see lots of beautiful scenery along the way. We’ll just have to come back again, and drive down there too. Dorothy spent the morning relaxing by the pool, and making new friends from the 12th floor.
We all spent the afternoon swimming in the infinity pool, and lounging around the pool. We then hopped the bus back to Old Town, and went to Cafe de Olla for dinner. Everyone’s food was very tasty. And the strawberry margarita was quite enjoyable, according to Susie. Lesson learned … stay away from the lime margarita, too heavy on the tequila.
After dinner we walked along the Malecon, to do a little sight-seeing and shopping. Got back to the condo in time for a quick dip in the pool. And we finally filled the hot tub on the condo balcony, and enjoyed that for a while. Ended the evening by finishing off Night of the Iguana.
Stay tuned for tomorrow’s adventures …
