It sure is nice to be travelling on my birthday after two years of not being able to because of COVID-19. After checking out of the Deer Haven Inn, we headed over to Loulou’s Griddle in the Middle. This restaurant has pancakes that are bigger than the plate. As we were arriving, we noticed that it was closed. Darn it. So we headed over to Starbucks and had breakfast there.
The first part of our drive today was the 17 Mile Drive. It is a scenic road through Pebble Beach and Pacific Grove. You actually have to pay to drive the road ($11.25 USD). The scenery varies from the Pacific coastline to a forest of cypress trees to famous golf courses. There are seventeen points of interest on the drive and we managed to stop at quite a few of them.
We met up with Dave, Cathy and Michael in Carmel. We picked up lunch from 5th Avenue Deli & Catering Co which we enjoyed on Carmel Beach.
It was time to get back into the car for the second part of our drive down Highway 1 which is also known as Pacific Coast Highway (aka PCH). We did stop quite a few times to enjoy the beautiful scenery.
Just before our hotel, we stopped at the Elephant Seal Vista Point. There were so many elephant seals just laying on the beach. Once in a while, a scuffle would break out amongst the males.
We left the elephant seals and quickly arrived at The Morgan ($150.19 USD) our destination for tonight. We quickly unpacked the cars and then headed over to the Moonstone Beach Bar & Grill were we had my birthday dinner.
Thanks to Karen, Dave, Cathy, Michael and Liam for making this an extra special birthday.
What an amazing birthday celebration!
