Since today is my birthday, I get to be the guest blogger! We were up early, and found that Coconut the elf-on-the-shelf has been hanging out in our bar area overnight. I bet he was a big helper with all the birthday decorations too!
We rented a 12-person pontoon boat today from Rose Marina, from 8:30-4:30. After a quick orientation, we headed out for a day of boating and fishing. There were lots of enormous houses and fabulous boats on our route, under the Jolley Bridge, along the Big Marco River, under the San Marco Rd bridge, past Goodland, and out to the entrance to the Gulf of Mexico.
After setting the anchor, we did some fishing, had some lunch, and listened to some Jimmy Buffett, while enjoying the Florida sunshine. Dave and Michael caught a few here. Along the way we saw sooooo many dolphins. They were playing everywhere.
We headed back the same way, went past the marina, saw the mansions along the Isle of Capri, and did some more fishing. Michael learned you have to watch your bait around the pelicans. If your bait is close to the top of the water, then the pelicans will swoop in and grab it! Dave, Michael, Liam and myself caught some cat fish and sand perch. The fishing was so good, that while Dave was taking off one of Michael’s fish, he caught another one on the other pole!
Birthday dinner was pizza and garlic knots from Joey’s … yummy! Note to self … the pizzas are ginormous, so don’t get two large! My birthday cake was phenomenal, chocolate of course, with strawberry filling, and covered in sea creatures. What better way to end a birthday in Florida than watching A Christmas Story.
THANKS to everyone for the birthday wishes, gifts, and memories!
