Gotcha

I never sleep well the night before an early flight.  I guess I’m worried about missing my flight.  The hotel booked us a taxi which picked us up at 6:15am.  It was a quick ride to the airport.  It didn’t take us long to get our bags checked, pass through security and make our way to our gate.  I think in total is was only 15 minutes.  That’s what happens when you are organized and know what to do.

The flight was five hours and we filled our time with trashy magazines, Ipod and a couple of hours of “Entourage”.  We landed at 10:00am and headed over to the McCarran Rent-A-Car Center to pick up our Mazda 3 from Hertz ($138.14 USD).  We booked the car through the CAA South Central Ontario website.  It was much much cheaper.

We had an hour before meeting up with Darren and Allison so we decided to see if we could check into our hotel.  We’re staying at the Hampton Inn ($80.10 USD).  It’s a very nice hotel.  We’ve got a 37″ LCD TV with hi-def channels.  And the beds are so comfy.

Before booking our trip, we called Allison to see if it was ok for us to come to visit.  She said yes but that she wanted to keep it a secret from Darren.  We decided that we would meet up with them at The Original Pancake House at the Aliante Station Casino & Hotel.  I saw them walk into the restaurant and motioned to Allison where we were.  As they approached the table, the look on Darren’s face was priceless.  Surprise.  Also visiting this week for Darren’s birthday is his brother Robin.  We had a great time catching up over breakfast.

We went back to their house and hung out for a hour or so.  We needed to have a nap so we made plans to hook up later.  We went back to the hotel and had a rest.  Fortunately for us, there is a Famous Dave’s next door so we picked up some fabulous BBQ for dinner.

We picked up Allison and went downtown to Fremont Street where we did some shopping at the ABC Store and some gambling.  Darren had a wedding at The Stained Glass Wedding Chapel so we decided that we would meet him and Robin there.  Besides performing as Elvis, Darren also does “Johnny Cash” at weddings along with Allison as “June Carter Cash”.  After the wedding, we all headed to the Golden Nugget to see Harry Shahoian as Elvis.  Harry is a friend of Darren’s so we thought we would check out his show.  The Golden Nugget is an old school casino.  Very classy and very elegant.  We finished the evening back at the house finding out who won the big awards at the Oscars.
