Florida here we come

It was nice not having to get up too early for our flight today.  After having our leisurely breakfast, we packed up the cars for the one minute drive next door to the Quik Park.  What was nice is that the shuttle bus picks you right up at your car.  It was a short drive to the Detroit Metropolitan Airport.  As we were standing in line waiting to drop our bags off at the Delta Airlines counter ($217.40 USD / person), Cathy realized that we forgot the car seats.  We knew things were going too smoothly.  Since we had over an hour before we had to board, Dave went back to the car to get them.

Excited about the flight (likely excited about the Fidget Spinners)

Between the naps, reading and watching movies,  the flight seemed to go by pretty quick.  We arrived a few minutes early just before 3:00pm to a beautiful sunny 90°F.  It took us just over an hour to get our luggage and rental cars (2017 Hyundai Sonata from Hertz for $342.10 USD, 707 miles driven).  Since we eached rented from different companies, we decided that we would just meet at the rental house.  The drive from Fort Lauderdale to Marco Island took us about two hours.

Liam enjoying the flight

Before getting to the rental house, Karen and I stopped by Marco Island Vacation Properties to pick up the keys.  We met up with the rest of the gang at 462 West Joy Circle ($2520.36 USD including all taxes and fees).  The house was exactly like the pictures on the website.  It did not take Michael and Liam too long before they were in the pool.

We left the boys back at the house so that they could watch the start of the first game of the Stanley Cup Eastern Conference Final between Ottawa and Pittsburgh.  The girls went for groceries and picked up a BBQ feast from Michelbob’s.  We enjoyed our dinner out on the lanai while watching Ottawa beat Pittsburgh.  Needless to say most people in the crowd were happy about the win.

Cheers
