Do you have any crushed nuts?

It was only twenty two miles to our next port of call, Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. We docked in Road Town at 7:00am and you should have seen how quickly the people were heading off of the ship. The unfortunate thing was that we had to be back on board by 2:30pm so this was a somewhat of a short stay.

There is not much to do on Tortola so we planned to make this a beach day. Everyone except for Teresa, Marie and Brodie were going. We met up for breakfast at the Garden Cafe Buffet at 8:30am and then headed off of the ship.

Let’s go to the beach

We walked through the Tortola Pier Park and got ourselves an open air taxi. Just like on St. Thomas, you have to wait until the taxi is full before they will leave. I would say it took about twenty minutes before we were on our way to Cane Garden Bay beach. We thought that yesterday’s ride was bad, today’s was even more harrowing. The roads are very bumpy, narrow and steep in some places. At one point, we are chugging up practically a ninety degree hill and our driver decides to pass a water truck. This is not a small taxi. It is basically an extended pick up truck that has five rows of benches with a cover and no railing on one side. Once we arrived at the beach, everyone kissed the ground.

We made plans with the driver to head back at noon so that gave us one and a half hours to enjoy the sun and sand. That would be plenty for me. We walked down the beach a little ways and we found ourselves a nice spot. We spent our time here just relaxing. Many of us even got into the water. I just kept thinking about the many many centimetres of snow back home while I was bobbing away.

The time went by very quickly and soon it was noon and time for us to head back. When we got to the appointed meeting place, our driver said the taxi was already full and we would have to wait for the next one. We reminded him that we had to be back and somehow magically there was room except for two would have to ride in the front with him. Karen told me that there were way more people there than should have been in the back. The drive back was just as thrilling as the ride there. I will stack up that drive against any of the roller coasters at Canada’s Wonderland. When we got back to the port, some of us checked out the ships while others just headed back to the ship.

Once we got on board, we headed straight to the Garden Cafe Buffet for a late lunch. As I was getting my ice cream, this man buds in front of me and ask the person working if there were any crushed nuts for his ice cream. Hey buddy there are so many things available at the buffet and you need crushed nuts? After lunch, the rest of the afternoon was spent relaxing back in the cabin and enjoying our balcony. I think I even managed to sneak in a nap.

Tonight Karen and I used another one of our speciality dining options and had dinner at Los Lobos, the Mexican restaurant. The entire meal was very good but the highlight for me was the guacamole that was prepared table side. I have to remember that the portions in the speciality restaurants are much larger than in the complimentary restaurants.

After dinner, we headed over to the Theatre to catch the “Jersey Boys” show. It was really nice that everyone decided to attend the performance. Brodie and I left about twenty minutes into the show and spent our time eating dinner, playing in the arcade and watching movies back in our cabin. Marie, Karen, Maria and Teresa came by and then we went to the Observation Lounge, our favourite hang out. There was no much happening there so we went to “Caliente”. This was a dance party pool side. A few of us ended up there dancing to the Latin dance tracks and club beats.
