Do you find it hot here?

When we woke up at 8:00am today, it was already almost 90°F.  It is going to be 110°F today, so taking it easy is in order.  We did some shopping in downtown Palm Desert and by the time we were done, it was lunch time.  There was an Olive Garden near by and we were both surprised that we were able to walk right in and get a table.  After lunch, we finished up our shopping at Macy’s.  Whenever we would go into a store, the staff would ask where we were from.  After we would tell them we are from Canada, the next question always was “do you find it hot here”.

There was an art installation that we wanted to see so we went to downtown Palm Springs to check out The Palm Springs Babies.  There are 10 fibreglass babies that each measure 8 feet in height.  The babies are in the lot of a new development and from time to time the babies are moved.  All I can say is that it was very interesting.  Just across the street from them, is a giant Marilyn Monroe statue.

The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is the world’s largest rotating aerial tramway in the world and we decided that we should experience it.  You start at the Valley Station which is at an elevation of 2643 feet and you ascend to the Mountain Station at 8516 feet.  During the fifteen minute ride to the top, the car rotates twice around.  It was a weird feeling.

At the Mountain Station, there are two restaurants, viewpoints and over fifty miles of hiking trails.  We spent about an hour enjoying the views back down to Palm Springs and the surrounding area.

The trip back down seemed to go much faster even though the tram operator told us that speed whether you are going up or down is the same.  We picked up dinner from Hula’s At Palm Desert which we enjoyed back at the hotel.  Afterwards, we had a quick dip in the pool.

Every Thursday night, downtown Palm Springs hosts The Palm Springs Village Fest.  The city closes down  a part of Palm Canyon Drive so that vendors can sell arts, crafts, food and provide entertainment.  Also many of the shops stay open late.  It was a really nice way to end our visit in the Palm Springs area.
