Camping in the 21st century

Prologue – Our accommodations were hit by lightning on Sunday night and the WIFI has been knocked out until Thursday.  We will do our best to keep you up to date.

After enjoying my last shower in civilization, we packed up and headed over to the Christmas Tree Shops to see what was on sale.  We picked up a few camping supplies (bungee cords, power bar, gift bags) and then started down the highway for New Jersey.  We found out that Maggiano’s Little Italy had a restaurant in Hackensack so we thought we should enjoy a lovely lunch.

It was a quick 2-1/2 hour drive from Hackensack to the Ocean View through rain and hail.  We arrived at the Ocean View Resort Campground just as the sun was coming back out.  We got here at 4:15pm and had the tent set up by 5:00pm.  It took us another hour to get everything settled inside … pumping up air mattresses, wiring up the tent for electricity and cable tv, etc.  We wanted to do a bit of exploring so we drove to Sea Isle to check out the beach.  The beach there is very wide, with lots of rolling waves and nice sand dunes.  We didn’t stay too long because we could see dark clouds and lightning in the distance … right over our campground.

We got back to our site and had just enough time to heat up our leftovers from Maggiano’s over the fire, before the sky opened up and dumped buckets of rain mixed in with some lightning and thunder.  The tent held up pretty well except for the screened-in area getting soaked.

I sit here now, on my air mattress watching tv, posting my blog from my laptop.  Now that’s camping.
