Best part of rain is rainbows

I got up this morning and looked out the window and I was surprised to see that it was raining.  I’ve never seen rain like this on Maui.  Usually when it does rain, it’s for a few minutes and then it stops.  We figured no point going out in the rain, we’ll just hang around and relax.

Today we wanted to drive around the North West part of the island.  But first we had to pick up lunch which we did from Honokowai Okazuya and Deli which is just down the road from us.  We then drove north up Highway 30 to Honolua Bay.  This is the place where all the surfers go.  It’s the place where the 2014 Target Maui Pro was held, a women’s surfing competition.  Before heading out to watch the surfers, we enjoyed our fabulous lunch in the car (Kung Pao Chicken and Panko Fried Mahi Mahi sandwich).

The parking lot and viewing area is high above the water.  The surfers have to walk down this steep hill to get down to the rocky shore before jumping in.  There were lots of big waves and because of that, lots of surfers.  We even saw a dog looking down on the water, waiting for his master.  I could have stayed for hours watching them.

We continued down the highway to Nakalele Point to see the blowhole.  By this point, the rain was coming down pretty hard so we walked out, looked at the blowhole and then ran back for the car.

We turned the car around and started back to the condo.  But before we did, we parked the car and took part of the Kapalua Coastal Trail.  The trail is around 1.5 miles long and it starts from Kapaula Bay Beach and finishes at D.T. Fleming Beach Park.  We picked up the trail at Oneloa Bay and walked the wooden boardwalk as far as it would take us.  Once that ended, the trail got quite slippery because of the rain.  The views are stunning and we even saw a rainbow.

Most nights we have had dinner on the lanai while watching the sunset and tonight was no different except for the fact that there was no sunset because of the clouds.  We still managed to enjoy our dinner from Pizza Paradiso.

Once again Darren was kind enough to give us tickets to his show Burn’n Love.  I would have to say that tonight was the best show I’ve seen so far.
