The blackout curtains work great at the Creekside Inn because I managed to sleep in until 8:55am. We promised the boys that we would check out the pool before leaving today. By the time we got downstairs, the rest of the gang was already there. Karen, Cathy and I walked over to Erick Shat’s Bakery and picked up items for breakfast which we enjoyed poolside. After getting the cars packed up, we walked back over to the bakery to pick up sandwiches for lunch.
Our final destination for today is San Francisco via Yosemite National Park. Up until about a week or so before our trip, there was some uncertainty as to whether the main road into the park would be open because of snow. But once we learned that the road would be open in time, there was some readjustments to the itinerary.
We had our co-pilot Liam with us again today and he kept us entertained for the 1-1/2 hour drive from Bishop, California to the Yosemite East Entrance Gate. This is where we met up with Dave, Cathy and Michael.
We asked the park ranger where would be a good place to have lunch and he said Tenaya Lake Picnic Area. What was to be an 1/2 hour drive, turned into more than an hour due to road construction. Once we finally got there, it was a short walk to the lake where we enjoyed our lunch.
Using the GyPSy Guide for Yosemite National Park, we made sure to see some of the highlights which included Olmsted Point, Bridalveil Falls, El Capitan and Yosemite Falls.
By the time we had finished in the park, it was after 6:00pm and we still had another four hours to get to our hotel. After a very long and at times stressful drive, we pulled into the Sonesta ES Suites San Francisco Airport San Bruno ($1221.74 USD) at around 11:30pm. We were all very exhausted but happy to be starting the third part of our California Road Trip.
