Unfortunately there was no beach volleyball today for the Canadian teams. Fortunately, Liz was able to join us for our adventures today.
Liz’s fiance Ray had to leave us in the morning, because he was due in Oklahoma City to train the Team Canada Sitting Volleyball team. We said our goodbyes to him before catching the bus to Walmart for our trip to Bucerias.
Bucerias is located approximately a half hour north of Puerto Vallarta. It’s a beachside town with lots of restaurants, art galleries and shopping. Since it was just after 12:oopm, we decided to have lunch. We headed down to the beach and stopped at Fat Boy’s. We enjoyed a lovely lunch on the beach, with our toes in the sand, while being serenaded by a Mexican gentleman singing Rod Stewart, Neil Young, Pink Floyd, etc.
After lunch, we walked around the flea market and I think that everyone ended up with a purchase. Some of my favourite phrases that I heard from the various vendors were “hey senorita, come see my junk”, “why not buy something for your cheap neighbors” and “almost free today”. We were all getting tired and hot so we decided to head back to the condo for a swim. Our bus ride back included being serenaded by another Mexican singing and playing guitar.
We had such a great time at Cafe Roma for lunch yesterday, that we decided to go back to enjoy dinner. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted like family by Juan Carlos. Juan was very happy to meet Liz, and get photos with her. We were very fortunate to meet the owner Senor Fox who originally hailed from Winnipeg, Manitoba. The meal was fabulous and started with margaritas, and ended with the mandatory shots of Tequila.
We took a quick walk around the Malecon before jumping back on the bus to enjoy an evening swim and the movie “The Night of the Iguana”, which was filmed in Puerto Vallarta in 1964. We think the buses in the movie are the exact same ones we’ve been riding in.
