A whale of a good time

You cannot believe how loud the waves are in front of the condo.  You could say that they are thunderous.  With all the windows open at night, sometimes it sounds like a huge wave is coming right through the condo.

When we were at the swap meet yesterday, one of the vendors told us that we should go to the craft sale at the Lahaina Civic Center.  Since we need to get Christmas gifts, we decided to go.  There were probably over one hundred vendors.  What was really nice is that alot of the booths were inside or in the shade.  It made the shopping much easier.  Everyone left with purchases.

We needed to have lunch so we decided to go back to Aloha Mixed Plate.  We were lucky to get a table with a beautiful view of the Lahaina harbor.  Food was fabulous again, and the view was great.

In the morning, since we knew that we were going to be in Lahaina, we booked a whale watching tour for the afternoon.  The company that we went with is Ultimate Whale Watch and boy did we have a good time.  What’s nice about this company is that the boat they use is a Wiki-Wahine (which is a Zodiac boat).  It only holds twenty-four people but they only take eighteen people out on it.  This means that everybody has a good seat.  Our captain was Eric Olbrich and his first mate was Michael.  Both of them were extremely knowledgeable about whales, and were great tour guides.

We spotted two whales immediately and headed over to where they were hanging out.  They were very curious, and kept going around the boat, and under the boat.  This boat was so small and so fast, that as soon as one bunch of whales went underwater for a while, we’d go off and find another bunch.  We had an unbelievable time.  Eric said it was like having a full Yahtzee card.  We saw whales breaching, mugging, spy hopping, pectoral slaps and a competition pod.  I don’t think I can go on another whale watch tour again.  Nothing could top this one.

After the tour, we walked over to Cheeseburger In Paradise and enjoyed dinner with an ocean view.  We went back to the condo to relax after an exhausting day in Lahaina.
