I got to bed much earlier than I have been the last few days so at around 7:00am, I was wide awake. After breakfast, the boys and Karen did a little more fishing before we had to say goodbye to the Kenai Riverfront Resort. Before we left Soldotna, we made a couple of stops. The first one was a Fred Meyer to pick up a few more things. The last stop was at The Moose Is Loose. It is part bakery and part gift shop. As soon as I walked in, I was overwhelmed with the choices. I ended up with three sugar cookies, an apple fritter and a giant chocolate donut called the Moose Snack which is almost the size of a dinner plate.
After filling up on sugary delights, we started down the Sterling Highway on the way to Homer. The drive was beautiful as all the drives have been. It was different because the highway is more inland and you really do not see any water until you get near Homer. We did stop at a pullout to have lunch that had a spectular view of the Cook Inlet. The last stop we made was at the top of Homer Hill where we could see The Homer Spit and Kachemak Bay.
We pulled into Heritage RV Park ($73.10 USD / night which including taxes) just as Linda was going to meet Steve coming back from his halibut charter. We decided that we would all drive down to see Steve’s catch. After twelve hours of fishing, he caught his allotment which was two halibuts. The crew gutted the fish and he ended up with about fifteen pounds of halibut. Steve went over to a fish processor who was able to freeze a good portion of his catch and package of the rest which we will enjoy tomorrow.
We decided instead of having dinner back at the RVs, we went to Captain Pattie’s Fish House which is a waterfront restaurant. The view was stunning and the food was pretty good too. Everyone was pretty tired so it was back to the RV park to get the rigs set up and call it a night.
