Nobody was happy when we got up today because we have to go home. We had to check out at 10:30am so we spent the morning doing final packing and cleaning up. We took the leftover hotdogs that we had down to the dock to feed the fish. The owner of the house came by for a final inspection and then we were on our way.
Our flight was not until 4:30pm so we had some time to kill. We headed back to Caxambas Park to check out the grouper again. We thought we might have better luck seeing him today because it was not raining. As we approached the dock, we saw that there was a boy, about twelve, fishing right where the grouper was. We were joking around that would it not be cool if the kid caught the fish. All of a sudden, the kid’s rod bends right over. The grouper grabbed his bait. The fish was pulling really hard so the kid took his pole down to a lower dock to give himself a chance. The fight did not last long because the line quickly snapped. Too bad we did not get to see the grouper.
We left the park and stopped in at Wal-Mart to do some final shopping. We heard an announcement that Santa was in the Electronics Department. In a flash, Michael and Liam left the Toy Department so that they could visit with Him. Even Karen and I sat down with Santa. The Cracker Barrel was only five minutes away so that is where we decided to have our final meal in Florida.
It was only about a thirty minute drive to the Southwest Florida International Airport. Dropping off the car was painless as it always is with Hertz. We gathered up all of the luggage and headed over to the terminal. Karen and I were a bit concerned because we knew we were over our weight limit. We put our bags on the scale and they weighed 86 pounds. That meant an additional $25 charge. The clerk did not know how to charge us so he asked somebody to help him. The gentlemen who came over asked how much we were over and then he told him to let us go without paying. Yippee.
Once again, Karen and I had the pleasure of sitting with Liam on the flight. We spent the flight reading, watching movies, snacking and napping. It was a quick flight and when we landed in Detroit, we were greeted with weather much colder than what we left in Florida. After getting our luggage, it did not take long for the shuttle bus to take us back to our cars at the Baymont Inn & Suites.
We said our goodbyes to the Paisley Maloneys. They decided to stay overnight while Karen and I started our drive home but not before stopping to do some shopping. We had no issues crossing the border and we arrived home at 2am. Another great vacation.
