When cooking over a fire, always start at least 3 hours before you want to eat

We decided to sleep in today since there was nothing on the agenda.  While laying in bed, it looked like it was going to a nice day weather wise so we thought we should go to the beach.  The question is which beach since New Jersey has so many nice ones.  We decided to go to Avalon.  Before hitting the beach, we stopped at Acme grocery store to get provisions.

We were really lucky to find a parking spot very close to the beach.  This was good since we somehow had quite a bit of stuff with us.  We got settled in our spot by 1pm and spent the afternoon eating (leftover turkey sandwiches that I made and another layer of the chocolate fudge cake), reading, napping and taking pictures.  We knew it was time to go by the fact that we were getting red.

Since we are by the ocean, we thought why not make scallops over the fire.  We went to Mike’s Seafood & Raw Bar in Sea Isle and picked up a pound of fresh scallops, a loaf of bread, a potatoe, lemon and three cobs of corn.  We also hit the Acme again to get butter sticks and salt and pepper.

We got the fire going but it took quite a while before it was ready for cooking.  Eventually about 2 hours after we started, we enjoyed a lovely meal.  I didn’t know how long you cook scallops for so I popped into the tent and fired up the laptop.  Thank God for the internet.

We ended the night by the campfire making popcorn in the new popcorn popper that we got at the Mannheim garage sale for $1.
