Cherry blossoms and snow

For those of you who are regular readers of my website, you know that we have made many trips in the past couple of years to Washington.  Karen’s niece Liz attends American University on a volleyball scholarship.  Volleyball season is over but we decided that we wanted to go to Washington to attend the National Cherry Blossom Festival.  Here is an explanation from their website … “The 2007 festival marks the 95th celebration of the original gift of the 3,000 cherry trees  from the city of Tokyo to the people of Washington, DC in 1912.”  It’s going to be stunning and there better be some award winning photos.

We got out of work around 3:30pm and once the car was packed up and Kaili (Karen’s dog) was dropped off at my mom and dad’s house, we were on the road by 5:00pm.  This would be our first trip using my new GPS … “Jack” (Garmin Nuvi 350).

We crossed the Peace Bridge around 7pm and decided that we wanted to keep driving in the daylight.  Unfortunately, just as we got past Buffalo, we happened to run into a snowstorm.  We were to arrive in Erie Pennsylvania around 8:30pm but ended up there around 9:15pm.

We met up with Karen’s brother Ross and sister-in-law Susie at the Cracker Barrel in Erie for a very late dinner.  We then headed over to the Red Roof Inn Erie ($52.49 USD) for the night.
