Karen’s niece Liz is a senior at American University on a volleyball scholarship. We wanted to catch a few more games before she finishes school and fortunately for us the AU Eagles were playing against schools that were within 6 hours driving time.
We were planning on leaving early but we learned that two of Liz’s teammates, Ann and Claire Recht, were going to be on the CBS Early Show and on NBC’s Today Show. They are the world’s tallest female twins at 6’8″.
We also learned that Buffalo, New York was hit with an early snowstorm which closed part of I-90 and the QEW. This threw a wrench in our plans. I fired up Microsoft Streets & Trips and recalculated the trip by crossing through Gananoque instead of Fort Erie. This would add 1-1/2 hours to the trip.
We crossed the Thousand Islands Bridge and headed towards Syrcause and our first stop, Christmas Tree Shops. We spent just over an hour loading up our shopping cart. We got back in the car and made our way to Colgate University in Hamilton, New York.
We had just a few minutes before the game started so we decided to pick up an early dinner from the Parkside Deli. Boy were these sandwiches ever good. The AU Eagles were victorious over the Colgate Raiders. We were fortunate to be able to spend a few minutes with Liz before heading off to our hotel.
Before checking in at the Super 8 – Norwich ($70 USD), we ended up having a late dinner at Nina’s Pizzeria. The food was excellent and I highly recommend this place.
