This camping thing is alright. We had some breakfast and then packed up the car for a day at the beach. We decided that today we would explore Ocean City. It’s known as America’s Family Resort since it’s a dry city. That means you can’t buy any booze in the city. It has a 2-1/2 mile boardwalk much like Wildwood except for there are no games of chance.
Even though it’s a public beach, you need to buy a beach tag. The tag allows you access to the beach. It’s $5 for the day, $10 for the week or $20 for the season. That money is used to keep the beach clean.
Karen did some research on TripAdvisor and some people recommended a place called Dixie Picnic. They offer a healthy alternative to the greasy food found on the boardwalk. And they have a dessert called Upcakes. Now I bet you are wondering what is an upcake. It’s an upside down cupcake that is smothered in icing on three sides. We ordered our healthy box lunches and headed to the beach. We were able to find a spot amongst all of the people and proceeded to bake our brains out, and enjoy our upcakes.
We spent the afternoon reading, napping, trying to get into the water (it’s very refreshing, I believe they said the temperature was in the mid 70’s) and snacking.
Since Ocean city is only 20 minutes from Atlantic City, we thought we should head over to the casinos to do a bit of gambling. On the way, we stopped to visit Lucy the largest elephant. Lucy is a six story elephant that that you can actually go into. We took the tour, entered through her back left leg, climbed up to the very top and then exited out her back right leg. The view was stunning out of her right eye.
We said goodbye to Lucy and ended up at Caesars Palace. Since it was way past dinner time, we decided to enjoy their buffet. It was pretty good but nowhere the caliber of buffets in Las Vegas. After dinner we headed outside to explore the boardwalk and the other casinos. Karen walked away with $30 extra dollars, me not so much.
