We woke up to see Grand Turk coming into view. The problem was that it was getting close to the time that we were to be docked and we were still not close. Then the captain came on over the intercom to say that the winds were really high and that he would assess the situation to see if docking was even possible. It took about an hour but all I can say is that we have an excellent captain because after a couple of approaches he was able to safely dock us.
We made our way to the gangway and were greeted with a warm Caribbean breeze. The first thing that Nana said is how beautiful the water is. We walked along the dock over to the Grand Turk Cruise Centre. It is basically made up of shops, a restaurant and lots of beach to go swimming. We walked around the various stores and it did not take Nana and Papa long before each of them had souvenirs.
We went over to the taxi stand to see if they had any that were wheelchair accessible. Unfortunately they did not have any. So there was a change of plans. Karen offered to take Nana to the Historic Downtown, while Papa and I hung out at the cruise terminal. They grabbed a cab while Papa and I headed over to Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville where I enjoyed a very strong margarita and free WiFi.
When Nana and Karen came back from their adventure, we headed back to the ship to have lunch. Karen and I decided that we wanted to go swimming before sailing so we headed back onshore and enjoyed a refreshing swim. The rest of the afternoon was spent snoozing and crafting. Nana and Karen headed to the Creative Crafts Class where they made Christmas cards.
Since it was Christmas Eve, we decided to have dinner at the Pinnacle Grill. It is the steakhouse onboard the ship. We always make a point of enjoying one of our dinners there and they never disappoint. Tonight’s selections included Broiled Lobster Tail, table side Caesar Salad and Filet Mignon.
We wanted to try our hand in the casino after dinner but unfortunately Lady Luck was not smiling on us and she very quickly took my $20.
We ended our evening firstly with the International Christmas Concert. This was made up with at least a hundred of the crew members performing as a choir. It was a very moving performance. And lastly, we stayed for Midnight Mass. All I can say is that was the most unusual mass I have ever been to.
I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas.
