When we were volunteering, Michelle told us about the Napili Farmers Market which is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays. She said it was a nice little market that had fresh Maui grown produce along with locally made products. Since it was less than 5 minutes away, we decided to start our day there.
Then we were off to Kahului to the famous Maui Swap Meet. It is an outdoor market held every Saturday from 7:00am to 1:00pm on the grounds of the University of Hawaii Maui College. Since 1981, vendors have been selling everything from fresh produce and Hawaiian crafts to vintage clothing, jewelry, and souvenirs. It is best to get there early for two reasons. Reason #1 is that vendors do sell out of things especially baked goods. And Reason #2 is that the later you go, it gets pretty hot there. We did not get there until 10:00am and it did not take us long to be seeking shade whenever we could.
We walked the entire market making sure to check out all of the vendors. The people that I was most looking forward to finding was Hang Loose Hammocks. They sell various types of bags made from parachutes. I have had two of their original shopper bags for well over 10 years and really wanted a shoulder bag. Boy was I excited when I saw that they were back at the Swap Meet. We had a really nice chat with one of the owners and she gave us a deal along with some stickers.
Since the Queen Ka’ahumanu Center was less than 5 minutes away, we decided to head over. There were a couple of stores we wanted to check out at the mall. We even managed to grab some lunch from L & L Hawaiian Barbecue. From there, we made a stop at a Longs Drugs before getting back to the condo by 3:00pm.
The rest of the afternoon was spent lounging by the pool and then enjoying another Maui sunset.
After dinner which was from Joey’s Kitchen, we tried to go to the Lahaina Lights Parade. Unfortunately we could not figure out exactly where it started and ended, so we gave up. It was back to the condo for an evening of relaxation.
