Those were some gnarly waves

It’s strange but my body is not letting me sleep.  For the past couple of days, my body has decided that 6am is when I need to get up.  Oh well … I shouldn’t be sleeping away my vacation.  Beach day today.

We decided to check out D.T. Fleming Beach today.  That’s what’s best about Maui.  You can check out a different beach everyday.  Once again we stopped at the Honolua Store in Kapalua to get a take-out lunch.  And then to the beach, which is only about 10 minutes north of the condo.

Even though it was sunny, we didn’t need the umbrella today.  But we did need our beach towels to protect us from the wind.  This beach is very long, with a golf course on the left, right on the ocean.  Very soft and sandy, with no rocks or coral, but lots of under-tow.

We decided to get brave and venture into the water. The waves were huge … at least in our eyes.  I believe the lifeguard stand said that the waves were anywhere from three feet to ten feet.  The riptide at times was so strong that it would knock you on our butt, which happened to me a few times.  As the water is pulling you out, it is also slamming you into the shore.  It’s quite a work-out, to fight the waves just to stand up.  We did get to try out Paula’s new waterproof camera.  Boogie boarding is exhausting.

After a strenous day at the beach, we headed back to the condo where we prepared and enjoyed a BBQ dinner on the lanai.  Some people pay large sums of money to have a great meal with a stunning ocean-front view.

Instead of staying in for the night, we went shopping at Whalers Village in Kaanapali.  What’s nice about this mall is that it’s an open air mall right on the beach.

What a beautiful sunset to end a day in paradise! Thanks for sharing and letting me live vicariously through you guys! Wish I was boogie boarding instead of spending 2 hours on the GO bus from Ajax to Yonge/Sheppard today in the snow/freezing rain! Make sure you fix your bathing suit before getting up from the surf! And have fun getting the sand out of every crevice in your body! Hey, the perils of living in paradise! I’d take those any day!
