Today we were on the move. Before leaving Whitehorse, we checked out a few stores on Main Street and picked up road snacks from Real Canadian Superstore. We finally left Whitehorse at 10:30am for what Google Maps said would be approximately a six hour drive to Dawson City. We shall see.
To get from Whitehorse to Dawson City, you drive the Klondike Highway. There are a few things to know about this drive. Cell service and amenities are few and far between. So you should always stop when you can because you do not know when the next bathroom break will be. The road conditions range anywhere from paved to pothole ridden to just gravel and there is not a lot of traffic out here.

We were lucky to have mostly blue skies and sunshine. The scenery was stunning, and we made sure to stop often to admire the views. We had a picnic lunch at Five Finger Rapids Lookout and along the way we got lucky to see a black bear and a smaller brown bear on the side of the highway.

We finally arrived in Dawson City just before 8:00pm and checked into the Holland America Dawson City Inn. We are staying here for the next two nights. We did not want to lose our parking spot so we went across the street to have supper at Belinda’s Dining Room. After driving nine and a half hours today, we decided to head back to the room and call it a day.
