We are on the hunt for fall colours so today’s destination was Ontario’s West Coast. We decided to check out Pinery Provincial Park which is just outside of Grand Bend on the shores of Lake Huron. It was only an hour and a half drive which included a pit stop in Exeter to pick up some chocolates and lunch.
We arrived at the Pinery and after paying the entrance fee ($18 CAD), we drove through twelve kilometres of forest to get to the first of nine beaches. Lucky for us, two of the beaches are dog friendly.
We grabbed our stuff and took the short boardwalk to the beach. There was a picnic table on a dune overlooking the beach and this is where we enjoyed our lunch.
After we finished our lunch, we started walking up and down along the water. Maui’s favourite thing to do is to bark at the waves and he had lots of opportunities to do so.
While we were walking, we managed to run into a snake that was heading out to the water. Do snakes swim? This is news to me.
The beaches are beautiful and remind me of the Caribbean. I can see why people love coming here. We basically had the beach to ourselves except for a couple of people that we saw.
We got back into the car and drove through the rest of the park. We even checked out two of the three campgrounds. It would be really nice to camp here but I am told that getting a site is near impossible. It was another great day of exploring the province.
